The Algiers regime has just taken another giant step towards the most uncontrollable madness. Arrested last Saturday, November 16 at Algiers airport coming from France and missing since, under the pretext of police custody, the Franco-Algerian writer Boualem Sansal was interviewed by the anti-terrorist prosecution of Algiers and was placed under arrest warrant, his lawyer François Zimeray announced Tuesday in a press release cited by Agence France Presse.
Accusations of terrorism are the usual fate reserved for all political opponents of the Algerian regime. The journalist Hichem Aboud, the Kabyle activist Ferhat Mhenni and the influencer Amir DZ know something about this. The three were convicted in absentia for terrorism, even though their only wrongdoing was to denounce a dictatorship which is destroying their country a little more every day. But to attack a writer and man of letters with the same charge is simply surreal. “The deprivation of liberty of an 80-year-old writer because of his writings is a serious act», «whatever the injuries invoked and the sensitivities offended“, observed his lawyer.
Development will follow.
