Putin says kyiv “should think” about its peace plan

While the High-Level Conference on Peace in Ukraine, organized at Bürgenstock, in Switzerland, has just ended, Vladimir Putin returned to the charge on Sunday with his peace proposal.

Affirming that the situation on the front was worsening for Ukrainian forces, the Russian president said that kyiv should “reflect” on the ceasefire and negotiations that he had mentioned last week.

“The current dynamics of the situation on the front clearly shows us that it will continue to get worse for the Ukrainians. It is likely that a politician who places the interests of the homeland above his own and those of his masters would consider such a proposal,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, referring to the Ukrainian president. Volodymyr Zelensky.

On Friday, Vladimir Putin proposed stopping the fighting and opening peace talks with Ukraine, provided that it withdraws its troops from four regions that Russia partially occupies and that it renounces its plan to join to NATO.

Ukraine, the United States and NATO immediately rejected these conditions.

Dmitri Peskov assured Sunday that it was not an “ultimatum”, but “a peace initiative which takes into account the realities on the ground”.

These statements come as Volodymyr Zelensky promised to make peace proposals to Russia once they are validated by the international community, within the framework of the Bürgenstock summit, to which Russia was not invited.
