The road toll worries authorities because of an increase in the number of accidents involving pedestrians during the fall season.

The spokesperson for the SPVQ, Pierre-Olivier Lévesque, wants to remind you of the safety rules that affect both pedestrians and motorists.

“Since last October, there has been a significant increase in accidents with injuries. On the road level, we are talking about collisions between motorists and pedestrians. There have been around twenty accidents with injuries since the beginning of October. We have reached November, so now we want to make preventive safety reminders,” he explained.

Since the pandemic, the number of accidents with pedestrians has increased almost every year, according to data from the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ).

In 2020, the SAAQ recorded 53 accidents involving a car and a pedestrian. By 2022, the number of accidents had increased to 83.
