The turntable exhibition in Mazamet attracted nearly 10,000 visitors and welcomed nearly 1,600 children during school visits.

The exhibition dedicated to leftovers, which was held this summer in Mazamet, was a resounding success, well beyond the expectations of the organizers. With more than 9,500 adult visitors, including 64.5% from Tarnais, 18.5% from other French regions and 4% from abroad, the exhibition clearly captured the interest of a wide audience. This figure demonstrates the attraction for local history and for the wool industry, a key sector of the heritage of Mazamet and Tarn Sud.

The event also attracted nearly 1,600 children through school and family visits. These visits were enriched by two interactive educational workshops, allowing young people to discover the secrets of wool and leather, while strengthening their understanding of the region’s industrial heritage. To go further, some visits were supplemented by a fun tour through the city center, allowing participants to discover the still visible traces of abandonment in the urban landscape. This educational component was a real success and reinforces the organizers’ commitment to passing on this essential history to new generations.

The main objective of this exhibition was to preserve and highlight the history of the turntable industry, a crucial sector for Mazamet in the 19th century, while capturing the attention of tourists who visit the Hautpoul footbridge. The exhibition demonstrated the importance of this industry, while highlighting its links with the city’s current economy. By attracting a local and tourist public, the exhibition contributed to revitalizing the South Tarn and promoting its rich industrial heritage.

In order to keep this great adventure alive and perpetuate these cultural initiatives, the association continues to call for generosity. Each donation, whether from individuals or businesses, helps support the conservation and dissemination of the history of abandonment. To participate in this project, it is possible to download a support voucher directly from the association’s website. Thus, thanks to the mobilization of everyone, the history of abandonment can continue to be shared and preserved for future generations.
