Around 3:15 a.m., police officers from the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) were called to intervene at the scene of an accident involving a pedestrian and a car on Charest Boulevard Est at the intersection of Rue du Courtyard.
When emergency services arrived, the pedestrian, a 19-year-old man, was conscious on the ground. He was transported to a hospital for minor injuries.
“It would be a situation involving alcohol, both on the part of the pedestrian and the driver.”
— William Robitaille, spokesperson for the SPVQ
The vehicle involved in the collision remained on scene and its driver, a 21-year-old woman, was arrested for impaired driving.
According to authorities, this would be a first offense for the driver. The young woman was released with a promise to appear in court.
By Saturday morning, the scene had been lifted and there was no longer any obstruction to traffic.
Share the public road
In recent weeks, the number of accidents involving a pedestrian and a vehicle has skyrocketed. This is the seventh accident of its kind in the last three weeks in the Quebec region.
The SPVQ reminds that near a pedestrian crossing, you must be extra vigilant.
The pedestrian must ensure that he is visible, has established visual contact with other road users and has clearly indicated his intention to cross, before entering an intersection.
“Courtesy and collaboration are essential for safe travel for all. Let us keep in mind that sharing the public road is a shared responsibility for all its users.”
— Quebec City Police Department
For their part, motorists must remain attentive to all road users and slow down near pedestrian crossings and intersections. He must also give way to pedestrians who want to enter the road, since they have priority.
