Banned in Spain, two ships bound for Israel dock in Tangier

After the Spanish government refused to dock, two ships from the shipping company Maersk, bound for Israel, stopped in Tangier. “The two cargo ships docked at the port of Tangier-Med,” said Jamal El Asri, former national coordinator of the Moroccan Front in Support of Palestine and Against Normalization, based in the capital of the Strait, in statements to Yabiladi. “But we are not sure if the two ships are transporting weapons for the Zionist entity, especially after Maersk’s denial,” he tempered.

This Saturday, Iberian media reported that Spanish authorities refused access to two ships to the port of Algeciras, due to suspicions of the presence of Israeli weapons on board. The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the two ships “will not stop in Spain”, but without giving further details, noted the same media sources.

This decision is the consequence of pressure exerted, from the beginning of this week, by deputies of the far-left Sumar coalition, a component of the government of Pedro Sanchez, arguing that the transport of military equipment to Israel constitutes “ a crime against personal rights.

As a reminder, on May 19, Madrid banned a stopover in a Spanish port for the merchant ship Marianne Danica, coming from India and carrying weapons intended for Israel. On the other hand, the Moroccan authorities authorized, in June, the docking in Tangier of an Israeli warship.
