The speech delivered by His Majesty King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the Green March reaffirms Morocco’s firm and clear position on the Sahara issue, said Spanish academic Rafael Esparza Machín.
The Royal Speech marked “a fundamental distinction” between a historical reality, represented by the Moroccan nature of the Sahara, and the ideological theses supporting a separatist vision out of step with the real world, said Mr. Esparza Machín, expert in Maghreb issues.
He added, in a statement to MAP, that the Sovereign’s speech demonstrated the fixed and obsolete nature of the separatist theses, inspired by outdated ideologies on the international level, welcoming the realistic perspective oriented towards development, outlined by the Sovereign.
“This is an undeniable reality, supported by broad international support and the growing recognition of the relevance of the Moroccan autonomy plan.”
Emphasizing the dynamic of development experienced by the southern provinces, driven by the major modernization projects initiated under the leadership of His Majesty the King, the Spanish expert observed that this dynamic has been instilled in several sectors of a socio-economic nature.
“These advances have transformed the Moroccan Sahara into a model of integrated and sustainable development,” he added, describing these transformations as essential vectors of prosperity for the entire Sahelo-Saharan region.
The initiative launched by HM the King aimed at facilitating the access of the Sahel States to the Atlantic Ocean testifies, moreover, to Morocco’s clear commitment to regional stability and international cooperation, affirmed Mr. Esparza Machin, noting that this approach embodies the spirit of partnership and shared development, adopted by the Kingdom.
