Presidential election in the United States : Trump, Biden and Harris, three candidates for one campaign
This Tuesday, November 5, 2024, is the big day. Even if some have already voted in advance, today is the day Americans choose a president: their 47th. The campaign was turbulent, between ex-president and candidate Donald Trump’s troubles with the law, the war in Gaza which entered the Democratic primaries, and then of course, President Joe Biden throwing in the towel and leaves the place of candidate to his vice-president Kamala Harris.
For this major report, RFI has decided to bring you back to life the key moments of this campaign, based on the comments made by the candidates, but also on the reports and analyzes of our correspondents on site, and those specialists from the United States interviewed by RFI.

North Carolina Democrats attack rural voters
On the eve of the elections in the United States, suspense. Trump or Harris? 7 of the 50 American states concentrate all the attention. Among these key states, North Carolina is the only one to have chosen Donald Trump in the last presidential election. 7 million voters are registered there. 16 electors are running for office. This year, the Democrats hope to win this state, in particular thanks to a strategy: mobilizing rural voters.
On these conservative lands mainly acquired by the Republican Party and Donald Trump, the progressive ideas of the Democrats of course offend more than one.
