A motorist was sentenced to a heavy sentence by the Saint-Nicolas court after telling the police he wanted to “break a record” for blood alcohol levels during a check.
On April 16, 2022, RW, a resident of Melsele in East Flanders, hit a car stopped at a red light, according to information from our colleagues at Het Laatste Nieuws. Instead of stopping, he decides to flee, but is quickly caught by the police. The police discovered that he was driving without a license, without insurance and that he had even been declared unfit to drive. So RW had nothing to do on the road.
The icing on the cake was that when the police asked him to blow into the breathalyzer, he declared that he wanted to “break a record”. Test result: 3.24 grams of alcohol per liter of blood, a sadly impressive score. We don’t know if RW actually broke the record, as this data is not easily accessible. As a reminder, the legal limit in Belgium is 0.5 g/l of blood.
The Saint-Nicolas court, however, was not impressed by his “performance”. RW was sentenced to 200 hours of community service and a two-year license suspension.
