Rabat – The volume of investments in the tourism sector reached 8 billion dirhams (billion dirhams) by the end of 2023, announced Tuesday in Rabat, the Minister of Tourism, Crafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatim- Zahra Ammor.

In terms of accelerating and developing investments in accommodation or tourist entertainment, renowned global brands are showing increasing interest in investing in Morocco, while Regional Development Companies have been created specifically for small and medium-sized businesses and that the “Go Siyaha” program was launched to support 1,700 tourism businesses, underlined Ms. Ammor in her response to a question on the results of the tourism sector in Morocco, during the weekly session of oral questions in the House of Councilors.

She further indicated that Morocco has a clear vision for the tourism sector aiming to reach 26 million tourists by 2030, with the launch of the 2023-2026 road map, with a budget of 6 .1 billion dirhams, which is already starting to bear fruit and which is based on a new concept of tourist offer focused on the tourist experience through 9 thematic sectors and 5 transversal sectors.

To implement this roadmap, 7 regional contracts have been signed so far in the regions of Fez-Meknes, Béni Mellal-Khénifra, Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima, Drâa-Tafilalet, Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, Souss- Massa and the Oriental, in addition to the development of 5 contracts for other regions, she specified.

After only 14 months of implementation of the roadmap, the minister indicated that significant results had been recorded, notably the launch of the promotional campaign “Morocco, Land of Light” in 20 world markets, the increase of 22% of the number of air transport seats in 2023, and the signing of a partnership with the company Ryanair to open up several regions, including the opening of 24 international airlines and 11 national airlines.

Concerning internal tourism, Ms. Ammor recalled that two sectors have been dedicated to it, namely seaside tourism and tourism in natural spaces, with flagship projects such as the “Dino Park” and 3 natural parks in Ifrane, Toubkal and Souss. -Massa, the green resort of Oukaïmeden and Khénifra, as well as two leisure parks in Casablanca and Marrakech.

And to note that the number of tourists reached 5.9 million during the first five months of the current year, an increase of 770,000 tourists compared to the same period in 2023.

The Kingdom’s tourism sector is recording record achievements, and during the year 2023, Morocco welcomed 14.5 million tourists and generated 105 billion dirhams in foreign currency, she raised, noting that 135 new accommodation units tourist attractions were opened.
