The Association for Research and Sustainable Development (ARSD) and the Association of the Moroccan Club for Environment and Development, in partnership with the Higher School of Technology of Khénifra, the Arab Network for Environment and Development (RAED) and the Climate and Clean Air Alliance of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), are organizing a round table on the theme: “Opportunities and challenges of renewable energies and climate change: What role for TeraMed? » on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 in the auditorium of the Khénifra Higher School of Technology.
Through this scientific and environmental event; the organizers aim to highlight the importance of renewable energies in the fight against climate change; to review Morocco’s efforts in the field of the transition to renewable energies and the latest technologies and solutions and initiatives to accelerate the transition to renewable energies, such as the TeraMed initiative; to discuss the challenges and obstacles facing the transition to renewable energy; to identify investment opportunities in the renewable energy sector; to highlight how institutional and civil actors, education, training, research and media institutions and the private sector are involved in the transition to renewable energies and finally, develop practical recommendations to support the process of acceleration of the transition to sustainable energies.
This round table, which will be attended by experts in the field of renewable energies and climate change, representatives of administrations and international organizations, representatives of the private sector and companies active in the field of renewable energies, academics, researchers and students as well as representatives of civil society, will focus on renewable energy and climate change and their impact on the economy and society, the role of technology in the development of renewable energy, national efforts and initiatives in the field of renewable energies, the Tera Med initiative to accelerate the energy transition in the Mediterranean region and financing and investment in renewable energy projects in the Mediterranean region.
According to the organizing committee, this roundtable is organized in the context of national and regional efforts to address the causes and impacts of climate change and to implement the outcomes of the various conferences of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention United Nations on climate change, particularly the outcomes of COP15 in Paris, COP16 in Marrakech and COP28 in Dubai in 2023, during which almost 200 countries signed a resolution calling for tripling current production rates and use of renewable energy by 2030 and to double energy efficiency to accelerate the transition to clean energy and reduce the use of fossil fuels.
It is also part of a Mediterranean initiative to accelerate a just transition to renewable energy which aims to launch an unprecedented campaign in the Mediterranean region, known as TeraMed, which aims to produce 1 TW of clean energy by 2030.
