Fundraising campaign from an influencer: donations for Sainte-Justine given to another hospital?

Subscribers of an influencer followed by a few thousand people on TikTok have raised red flags due to donations for the Sainte-Justine University Hospital Center (CHU) which could be given to another hospital.

Alexander Granger says he raised a few thousand dollars during a half-marathon for the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation in Montreal.

However, TVA Nouvelles has learned that some of these subscribers have denounced him because they wonder if their contributions paid to the TikToker were indeed sent to sick children.

TVA Nouvelles contacted Mr. Granger for information on this matter while he was live on social networks.

The latter provided a terse response and then blocked us to prevent us from consulting his publications.

According to our information, the hospital foundation is concerned by this situation to the point where it is currently carrying out checks on Alexandre Granger.

“We take this situation very seriously and are currently analyzing it,” it was said.

“We are particularly attentive to the risks of fraud linked to collections organized in our name […] If in doubt about the legitimacy of any donation collection, we advise donors to contact the Foundation or the cause concerned directly,” explains the Foundation in a press release.

In the afternoon, the influencer finally called TVA Nouvelles to explain his version of the facts.

Nevertheless, Alexandre Granger explains that the donations made during his half marathon were given to the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation contacted TVA Nouvelles to confirm that it will carry out verifications to confirm the payment of the $5,000 donations as claimed by Alexandre Granger.
