This section, known for attracting speed enthusiasts, whether by car or motorbike, is nevertheless regularly the scene of accidents. But nothing to dampen the ardor of this young 19-year-old driver… until that fateful June 4, 2022. As he got back down behind the wheel of his Toyota GT86, this resident of the Coast with a license to the test lost control of his car in a curve, before hitting two motorcyclists who were coming in the opposite direction.

The shock was terrible and the consequences extremely serious. One of the bikers, a Frenchman in his thirties, father of two young children, found himself quadriplegic. His traveling companion also suffered serious injuries, to the point that he is no longer able to carry or feed his baby. As part of the trial which was held this Monday in Nyon, the driver at fault admitted it bluntly: “I am responsible. I was driving at an inappropriate speed. Usually, I drive quietly. But that day, my driving was rather sporty.

Despite all the young man’s remorse and the many tears shed before the judges, the fact is that his two victims are now dependent, with no prospect of improvement. “Like many young drivers, the defendant believed he was invincible behind the wheel, even though he did not even have his final license. Unfortunately, two lives had to be destroyed for them to understand that the Route Blanche is not a rally track nor a playground,” considers the prosecutor, who requested 20 months in prison with a five-year suspended sentence. , as well as a fine of 3000 francs. Verdict next Monday.

His life is no longer the same either

Presumably the offender will not go to prison. But the guilt nonetheless crushes him with all its weight. Between anxieties, nightmares and flashbacks, not a day goes by without him thinking about the disaster he caused and its dramatic consequences for the victims. Despite psychological follow-up, he no longer dared to touch a steering wheel and says he will never do it again. Even his lawyer did not ask for a reduced sentence. His only request was that the reprieve not exceed two years.
