The King’s Attorney General at the Court of Appeal of Kenitra announced that the investigating judge ordered to place seven people under committal warrant and to place another under judicial supervision at the disposal of the investigation, after the death of several people following the consumption of a substance harmful to health in this province.

In a press release, the King’s Attorney General stressed that in connection with what was reported by certain sites and social networks regarding the death of people following the consumption of a substance harmful to health, the prosecution had ordered the competent judicial police reporting to the Royal Gendarmerie to open an investigation into the circumstances of this case in accordance with which eight people were brought before this prosecution.

The conclusions of the investigation carried out, specifies the same Source, showed that the victims consumed a toxic alcoholic substance, namely methanol, which led to the death of some of them, while others received necessary care before leaving the hospital and others are still under treatment. They also reveal that certain suspicious people obtained this alcoholic substance from sellers of concentrated alcohol which they delivered to certain traffickers, adding that the latter, in turn, sold it to people invited to a party who felt, after consuming it, pain which led to the death of some of them.

Based on these data, the prosecution submitted a request for an investigation to be carried out against individuals suspected of having deliberately supplied substances harmful to health which resulted in cases of death and physical incapacity. After the preliminary interrogation, the investigating judge ordered seven suspects to be placed under arrest warrant and another to be placed under judicial supervision at the disposal of the investigation. According to the press release, the prosecution will ensure that it follows the different stages of the case and submits the necessary requests for strict implementation of the law.

As a reminder, at least eight people died of methanol poisoning following consumption of adulterated alcohol in Sidi Allal Tazi, while the total number of cases of poisoning reached 114, indicated a recent report from the Directorate regional health and social protection of the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region broadcast on June 5. Already last Monday, local authorities opened an investigation into this matter. Investigations carried out by the Royal Gendarmerie services made it possible to identify the people allegedly involved in this affair and to arrest two individuals aged 41 and 21. The two accused were in turn placed under medical surveillance at the provincial hospital of Kénitra awaiting the evolution of their state of health in order to launch the judicial investigation against the background of their alleged link in the manufacturing and marketing of products harmful to public health causing the death of consumers.
