An investigation into assault and battery on persons holding public authority was opened after the attack on Wednesday of two police officers during an operation aimed at arresting a drug dealer in a popular district of Marseille, the prosecution announced on Sunday.
The video showing the attack on these two police officers from the specialized field brigade (BST) and circulating on social networks has been authenticated, underlined the public prosecutor of Marseille, Nicolas Bessone.
As of Sunday evening, no person had yet been arrested, the magistrate said.
Throwing stones and glass bottles
In the images we see two police officers on the ground receiving a kick from a man, surrounded by around ten others, at the bottom of a building in the Cité de la Castellane, a popular district in the north of Marseille gangrenous with drug trafficking.
In this video, a person appears to be held on the ground by one of the police officers before punching and fleeing.
According to the daily Provence, several individuals threw projectiles, stones and glass bottles at the police, causing injuries to the eye of one and the hand of the other.
“Our society has created savages, barbarians. The police fight against this on a daily basis and sometimes without the necessary weapons,” regretted on the social network
