The return of the sun to a large part of France is unfortunately accompanied by less forgiving prospects for the end of the week. After the severe weather last week, a new episode in the Cévennes is to be feared for the start of the All Saints’ Day holidays.
If the start of the week offers relatively calm conditions in the south with generous clearings particularly in the west and center of the country, despite rain in Brittany, the south could well be faced with further intense rain from Thursday.
70 mm of rain in a few hours expected in the South
Indeed, from the end of Thursday, a depression will approach the Mediterranean, causing a Mediterranean episode likely to generate significant accumulations of rain. “Friday and Saturday, a Mediterranean episode will affect the south-eastern quarter of the country, giving significant accumulations of rain”, warns Météo France, with precipitation which could exceed 70 mm in a few hours.
This classic phenomenon in autumn, called the Cévennes episode, is formed when hot and humid air coming from the Mediterranean Sea hits the reliefs, particularly in the Cévennes. This shock brings torrential rains to small areas, often accompanied by an increased risk of flooding.
