This «exceptional contribution to the profits of large companies» must be in place for two years.

The deputies of the Finance Committee validated on Friday the temporary increase in taxation on large companies wanted by the government, the macronie having failed to cancel or weaken it, and the left to strengthen it. This “exceptional contribution to the profits of large companies” must be in place for two years.

The temporary contribution corresponds to 20.6% of the corporate tax due for 2024 for companies whose turnover ranges from one billion euros to less than three billion euros, and to 41 .2% of this tax for those which reach or exceed three billion euros in turnover, according to the draft budget for 2025. The measure will in any case be examined again next week in the hemicycle, where the deputies will start from the initial version of the finance bill. In the finance committee, on Friday she fueled a long debate opposing the left to elected LR and «bloc central».

“An absolutely massive increase in taxation”

The latter tried purely and simply to remove it, or at least to amend it, for example by limiting it to one year instead of two, or by reducing the rates of the surcharge. “History will record that it is a right-wing government that is pushing back into fiscal madness”hammered Macronist Charles Sitzenstuhl. “We are seeing an absolutely massive increase in taxation. If we adopted this article, our country would fall significantly behind our European neighbors.added his colleague from the same party, Mathieu Lefèvre.

Conversely, the left tried, in vain, to strengthen the surtax, either by applying it to a greater number of companies, or by raising the rate, or by making it permanent beyond two years. We can’t “request efforts from everyone, the unemployed, the retired, the working classes, the middle classes, but not from shareholders and in particular from shareholders of very large companies”pointed out the president of the commission, Éric Coquerel (LFI). The RN, for its part, refused to oppose the surcharge, not “because it gives us special pleasure to increase taxes”but because it is necessary to “rebalance the state budget”noted Jean-Philippe Tanguy.
