INTERVIEW. Vincent Licari, new president of the Morbihan committee of French boxing savate

Arriving in four years ago, Vincent Licari signed for a minimum of four additional years. On October 8, 2024, he became the new president of the Morbihan departmental committee of French boxing. Another hat for someone who already gives lessons at the Saint-Thuriau club (Morbihan), in addition to being a trainer for the Ligue de Bretagne. Interview.

What pushed you to run for president of the departmental French boxing committee?

The former president did not run again. It was an opportunity, we didn’t really know who was going to take over. I put together a list, a program and there was consensus. As I organize quite a few actions as a trainer with the Ligue de Bretagne, people know me.

How is the committee doing?

Eight years ago it was in financial difficulty but our predecessors put it back on a sound footing. This will allow us to create more actions to promote savate on a social level, in neighborhoods, nursing homes, schools… Today, savate brings together 956 licensees in the department. The headquarters will be transferred to Saint-Thuriau, where I am treasurer and coach of the club.

What are your ideas for revitalizing the discipline?

The objective is to create a Team 56, with groupings once a quarter to begin with, then once a month. These will be days or half-days to shoot elsewhere than in your club. And why not launch interdepartmental meetings. We also want to support the creation of clubs, through material or financial support, and we want to help instructors become professional by passing the Professional Certificate in Youth, Popular Education and Sport (BPJEPS). Today, there are not even ten of them in Morbihan.

Why are there so few?

Clubs have always been afraid of paying coaches. Everything works thanks to volunteering, except that it discourages a lot of people. Tomorrow, instructors holding a BPJEPS could lead activities outside the clubs. They would be prioritized for actions, for example with the Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee (CDOS), to be paid. Clubs should no longer be afraid to pay them.
