The De Lijn bus strike continues this Friday: here are the affected areas

The strike within De Lijn, which started Thursday morning on the outskirts of Brussels, will continue on Friday, said the Flemish public transport company. Disturbances are expected around Brussels, in part of East Flanders and in Kempen.

A spontaneous strike broke out Thursday morning. Staff are unhappy with the new schedules which are due to come into effect in January. Bus drivers in the regions of Asse, Vilvoorde, Grimbergen, in Flemish Brabant, and Ninove and Dendermonde, in East Flanders, have notably decided to walk off the job.

Despite negotiations on Thursday, no agreement could be reached between the unions and management, leading to a continuation of the strike.

The drivers of De Lijn en Kempen decided to follow suit on Friday, the public transport company said. The disturbances are particularly significant around the deposits of Turnhout, Hoogstraten, Broechem, Mol, Oostmalle and Heist-op-den-Berg.

De Lijn reported later in the morning that bus traffic was also disrupted around the Wuustwezel and Rumst depots in the Antwerp suburbs.
