left-wing deputies table the first motion of censure against Michel Barnier

The first motion of censure against the government of Michel Barnier, signed by 192 deputies of the New Popular Front, was tabled this Friday, and will be defended Tuesday afternoon by the First Secretary of the PS Olivier Faure.

Promised, done. The deputies of the New Popular Front had announced it even before Michel Barnier’s general policy declaration. This Friday, they tabled a motion of censure against the new government. The latter must be defended on Tuesday October 8 in the afternoon.

In their statement, the presidents of the socialist, rebellious, environmentalist and Democratic and Republican Left groups outlined the two reasons for this motion of censure.

The first reason addressed is that of the “negation of the result of the last legislative elections” by the choice of a government formed mainly by the center and the right.

Indeed, the members of the NFP believe that “the President of the Republic should have appointed to Matignon the personality proposed by the New Popular Front, the coalition having collected the greatest number of seats in the National Assembly”, i.e. -say Lucie Castet.

The political orientation of Michel Barnier targeted

The second reason for censorship, mentioned by Mathilde Panot, Boris Vallaud, Cyrielle Chatelain and André Chassaigne, is that of the “political orientations of the Barnier government”.

The 192 NFP deputies out of 193 signatories of this motion of censure, added that “censoring the Barnier government is therefore the quickest and surest way to obtain the repeal of the pension reform”.

In addition, the latter considered that “this motion of censure constitutes a call for a Republican surge”, which, if it is voted on, will make it possible to “preserve our social model” and “protect the rule of law”.
