Broad support for Lausanne students

Published today at 9:25 p.m.

Some 400 supporters flocked to the campus of the University of Lausanne this Saturday to support the students who are mobilizing for the Palestinian cause. General assemblies, workshops, yoga, music and discussions punctuated the day which went off without a hitch.

According to Joseph Daher, professor and speaker during a conference, the Géopolis students “are outraged over something that is unacceptable, a genocide.” Olivier Filieule, sociologist and also professor at UNIL, calls for “total transparency” from the university on its collaborations with Israeli institutions.

A letter on this subject will soon be sent to management. For now, university staff are being asked to sign it.

Olivier Fillieule, Professor of political sociology at the University of Lausanne, speaks to pro-Palestinian activists demonstrating during a call for mobilization this Saturday.

Authorized occupancy

Since Thursday, a group of students have occupied the Géopolis building. In addition to a ceasefire in Gaza, they are calling for a boycott of Israeli academic institutions. A priori, they will stay there in any case until the end of Monday. A new meeting with the rectorate should then take place.

According to a spokesperson at Keystone ATS, inside Géopolis, life is organized. Furniture has been moved, three tents sit in the atrium and a room covered with mattresses serves as a dormitory. But above all two assemblies per day to make decisions together.

For some students, this night will be the third since the start of their action.
