Emmanuel Macron’s speech at the Sorbonne will be counted as speaking time for his camp, announced the Audiovisual and Digital Communication Regulatory Authority (Arcom), Thursday May 2. Last week, the Head of State gave a speech on the future of Europe, where he notably mentioned defense, trade policy and, more generally, the means necessary to confront the great powers. This speech lasted almost an hour and a half.
“If the remarks of the President of the Republic did not express explicit support for the list led by Ms. Valérie Hayer, they nevertheless presented, in their entirety, a direct link with the election”considered Arcom, in a letter to LR consulted by AFP. Since April 15, and as before each election, TV and radio stations are required to respect a principle of fairness in the treatment of political forces, before the June 9 vote. Last week, Arcom promised “to examine referrals relating to the speaking time of the President of the Republic”.
The Republicans had notably written to the regulator so that the entirety of this speech, which they qualify “electoral propaganda operation”be counted “speaking time list” Renaissance. On Public Senate, Friday, the boss of the PS, Olivier Faure, also announced his intention to request Arcom: “It is curious that the Head of State, at this moment in the sequence, speaks, mobilizes the television channels, does it as if he were the head of his own list, but without being counted”. He mentioned “a subject of inequity between the applications”.
