Four people were arrested in Schaffhausen on Monday following the use of the Sarco suicide aid capsule. One of them was placed in pre-trial detention, while the others were released.

One person was taken into custody after the use of the Sarco suicide capsule in Merishausen (SH). The competent court accepted the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The three other people arrested in connection with this case were released.

The compulsory measures court followed the request of the public prosecutor and ordered the provisional detention of a person, the public prosecutor of the canton of Schaffhausen told the Keystone-ATS agency on Friday. He did not release any further information about the person due to the ongoing investigation.

In a forest near Merishausen

On Monday, the Public Prosecutor’s Office was informed that the Sarco suicide capsule was used in a forest near Merishausen. On site, the intervention forces secured the capsule and took the deceased, a 64-year-old American woman, to Zurich for an autopsy.

Four people close to the organization “The Last Resort”, which makes the Sarco capsule available, were provisionally arrested. They would be the co-president of “The Last Resort”, two lawyers and a Dutch photographer.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated criminal proceedings against those arrested for inciting and assisting suicide. The Public Prosecutor’s Office also requested the preventive detention of one of the four individuals. His request was accepted by the competent court. (ats)
