A recent investigation by Public Eye found that baby milks and porridges sold by Nestlé in Senegal and other low-income countries contain alarming levels of added sugar, in stark contrast to their European equivalents. This situation has triggered a wave of reactions among civil society organizations and Internet users, who are demanding the withdrawal of the incriminated products from the market.

The Swiss NGO Public Eye, in collaboration with the International Child Food Action Network, analyzed 150 Nestlé products. Their findings show that almost all of these baby cereals contain nearly 4 grams of added sugar per serving, a level considered dangerous by medical experts and the World Health Organization who see it as a possible Source of childhood obesity. .

Faced with the scale of the criticism, Nestlé responded on April 22, affirming to respect local legislation and to offer alternatives without added sugar in several markets. However, the debate persists on the disparities between products sold in Europe and Africa, and on the risks for the health of infants.
