LThe Grand Baromètre also looks at one of the political controversies of the summer: the choice of the future Belgian European Commissioner. The current holder of the post, the liberal Didier Reynders, was widely expected to be re-elected. But a last-minute turnaround put him out of the running. At the end of complicated negotiations, it was the Minister of Foreign Affairs Hadja Lahbib who was pushed towards the Berlaymont by the president of the MR, Georges-Louis Bouchez. If the European Parliament gives the green light, she should become Commissioner for Crisis Management, Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection.

On the French-speaking side, citizens are more positive. Between 32 and 39% think that Georges-Louis Bouchez made a good decision (in Wallonia and Brussels respectively). But if we look at the glass halfway quickly, they are about as many (38 and 34%) to think the idea was not a good one.
