He went through all the emotions. After having bet five euros to participate in an online poker tournament, a man in his forties made an exceptional capital gain of 795,000 euros since he left with an astronomical amount of 800,000 euros.
Monday January 20, La Provence reported that the individual, originally from Digne-les-Bains (Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur), had lost his job “the same morning” of his victory. Since the launch of the tournament in question in October 2015, he became the 108th player to hit the jackpot.
“I didn't expect it”
The events took place on December 31, 2024, the eve of the new year. “It was my colleague who told me to start a game“, says the man who had to take the metro at Saint-Lazare station (Paris). Not necessarily inclined to win a large sum, a card changed his destiny: “I only had a 3% chance, it seems to me, of getting a 6”, confirms the person concerned who “thought it was 1,000 euros.”
“I didn't expect it, it took me 48 hours. I had just lost my job that morning”, said the forty-year-old who cried when he heard the good news. This gain will allow him to get out of a bad “financially complicated patch.”
-With this sum, he plans to buy a main residence in the Paris region and “wants to invest in real estate.” But, despite the excitement around this jackpot, the Dignois keeps his feet on the ground: “Money won't change me, I'll stay the same.”
