Trivium frontman Matt Heafy shared an unexpected revelation about the track Declarationfrom their flagship album Ascendancy (2005). In a recent interview with Metal HammerHeafy revealed that the title was partly inspired by AbsolutionMuse's third album, released in 2003.
Muse's influence on a Trivium classic
In DeclarationMuse's influence comes through subtly but distinctly. “This song is crazy,” Heafy explains. “You can hear a bit of the Absolution influence in the middle, but it's also a mix with the spirit of Emperor's IX Equilibrium in the verses.” An improbable but powerful mixture which illustrates the various inspirations of the group at that time.

A hymn to compassion and unity
Beyond its musical aspect, Declaration carries a powerful message. Heafy describes it as “a violent and furious call to defend those who deserve it.” The track embodies his commitment to compassion, empathy and humanity: “How can you not want your friends or other people to just be able to enjoy life? That’s what this song is about.”
