Arriving at ASSE this summer from Maccabi Haifa, Pierre Cornud could already leave Forez this winter. According to the Israeli media Sports5the Israeli club would like to repatriate its former player, barely five months after his departure.

A return considered to Israel for Cornud

Maccabi Haifa, where Pierre Cornud left an excellent impression, would be ready to make an offer for the 27-year-old left back. Two options would be considered: a loan with purchase option or a definitive transfer. Under contract with ASSE until 2026, Cornud will not, however, be able to leave for free.

The Israeli club's interest is no surprise. During his two years with Maccabi Haifa, the defender played 94 games, scoring one goal and providing 15 assists. He also contributed to the team's successes, including two Israeli league titles, an appearance in the Champions League group stage, and a Europa League campaign.

A complicated adventure in Saint-Etienne

Since his arrival in Forez, Pierre Cornud has failed to establish himself in the Saint-Etienne squad. In five months, he played only 377 minutes in Ligue 1, spread over seven appearances, without scoring a goal or providing an assist. Far from being an indisputable starter, he notably participated in notable defeats, such as the heavy 8-0 setback against or the 4-0 at .

However, he also featured in the 1-0 victory against , one of the rare matches where ASSE kept a clean sheet this season.

A strategic decision for ASSE

For ASSE, the possible sale of Pierre Cornud could offer an opportunity to minimize what looks like a recruitment error while adjusting the squad. With Maccabi Haifa ready to put pressure on, the outcome of this issue could come quickly. It remains to be seen whether the defender will find his place in Eirik Horneland's squad or whether he will return to an environment where he experienced his best years.
