“Our medical and paramedical team has the particularity of being multidisciplinary and hyper-specialized in the fields of vascular and cardiac surgery,” explains Doctor Mokhtar Serhani, head of the Vascular Surgery Department at Mercy Hospital. Strong expertise which is justified by the diversity of support and the mobilization of very specific cutting-edge equipment. The department notably has a so-called “hybrid” room allowing both classic surgical interventions and interventional radiology procedures to be carried out. The practice of minimally invasive surgery is also favored.
For the benefit of the patient
And this is not trivial for the patient since these actions have the advantage of minimizing pain, the risk of infection as well as the duration of convalescence. “This also significantly reduces the length of hospitalization. For certain interventions, the patient leaves the hospital after 48 hours compared to 10 days with other more traditional techniques,” specifies Dr Serhani. An outpatient unit (without hospitalization) is also operational to ensure the management of certain venous pathologies (treatment of varicose veins) or the creation (and maintenance) of arteriovenous fistulas for chronic dialysis patients.
A significant number of patients treated
Each year, more than 300 patients are welcomed and treated in the Vascular Surgery Department, for a wide variety of treatments. Vascular surgery treats different diseases of the arteries, veins and vessels of the thorax, arms and legs. “We, for example, take care of patients who have suffered a stroke due to carotid stenosis, in other words induced by a narrowing of the artery. We also intervene in the treatment of obliterating arteriopathy of the lower limbs (or arteritis) linked to stenoses or occlusions of the arteries providing blood supply to the lower limbs,” illustrates the head of the Vascular Surgery Department at Mercy Hospital.
Not without sending a final message to remind you that tobacco consumption, lack of physical activity or excessive alcohol consumption are all cardiovascular risk factors on which everyone has the possibility of acting. The CHR has also implemented a sports-health policy for several months which is gaining momentum.
