This weekend, the Frenchwoman had the unpleasant surprise of discovering, thanks to an unofficial video, that the American rapper had sampled one of her songs. She confirmed that she did not agree. But could the matter take a legal turn?
The speed of Apple's reaction says a lot about the unease now aroused by Kanye West. Saturday January 4, a video showing the American rapper at work in the studio, unsourced and apparently broadcast without his knowledge, began to circulate, allowing us to hear a sample of the symphonic conclusion of Sun sun, ballad taken from Flaws, Claire Pommet's second album released in 2019. Nothing in the document allows us to determine with certainty the state of artistic development of the song nor the involvement of the American rapper in its creation, even if the presence of voices (among which that of West himself) suggests that they are quite advanced.
But Apple will not have needed more factual elements to feel the need to «clarifier» the «situation» with its community of Instagram followers, and beyond, regarding the use “potential” from a sample of his song by Kanye West. Monday January 6 at the end of the afternoon, the singer published a post in which she indicated that she did not know “the source of video and audio content circulating these days on social networks” and not have “never given [s]we agree to the use of this sample for reasons which [lui] seem obvious, being in deep disagreement with the political positions of this artist that[elle a] yet much admired in the past.”
