The non-profit organization La Lumière, dedicated to supporting blind and visually impaired people, has decided to respond to the call launched recently by the director of Accueil Botanique. This social assistance, food and integration service, lacking volunteers to face the winter, had requested help from local businesses and organizations.
Touched by this call, the head of volunteers at La Lumière had the idea of mobilizing a team of volunteer beneficiaries. Accustomed to managing the association’s cafeteria, where they regularly welcome beneficiaries, relatives and members of staff in a friendly atmosphere, these volunteers immediately responded with enthusiasm to this initiative. Before committing, La Lumière took care to check that the Botanical Welcome locations were adapted to the needs of visually impaired people. A prior visit ensured that the space was secure, well organized and accessible. With these precautions validated, the team of volunteers signed up to lend a helping hand.
This Thursday, January 9, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., La Lumière volunteers will join the Accueil Botanique team to serve breakfasts to people in precarious situations. A unique meeting between two groups with specific needs, which shows that mutual aid and resilience can combine to make a difference.
“This exchange symbolizes the spirit of mutual aid that drives the non-profit organization and highlights (literally and figuratively) the capacity of its beneficiaries to actively contribute to society. Helping others in need is a privilege. We are proud to be able to share this moment with Accueil Botanique and their beneficiaries“, underlines the manager of La Lumière volunteers.
La Lumière and Accueil Botanique hope that this initiative can inspire other associations and businesses to join forces to build a more united and inclusive society.
