Obviously, force to Solo and all the other victims of Afrika Bambaataa.
Many accusations
We saw it recently, whether it is the US rap game, or French rap, the musical movement has long been infested with sexual predators. No wonder: there is sexual predators in all walks of lifeand there are even more so in circles where we find rich, powerful and influential people. While the subject has long been taboo in the rap game, the victims' voices are slowly beginning to be freed. We think of the Diddy affair, but also of the accusations against a former member of the Sexion d'Assaut that fell recently. This week, it was Solo, emblematic member of the cult group Assassin, who accused a US rap legend of sexual assault.
A very dark story
This US rap legend is Africa.which is neither more nor less thanone of the creators of the hip-hop movement in the 70s, and also a founding member of the Zulu Nation. A man of 67 years old today who was extremely respected in the movement until accusations of sexual assault against him have increased since 2016. Vice even published an investigation entirely devoted to this subject saying that it had been going on for decades.
This week, we learned that the predator's “hunting ground” was not limited to America, but that he also attacked young French rappers. Solo, member of the legendary group Assassinwho is among the pioneers of the discipline here, has indeed delivered a long interview to “Clique”, the show hosted by Mouloud Achour.
In the extracts circulating on social networks, we can hear rapper claims he was sexually abused by Afrika Bambaataa when he was 17. Solo explains that if these revelations come out so late, it is because he needed to rebuild himself and regain confidence in himself to be sure he could approach the subject in the right way.
We obviously send him all our support and we hope that his testimony will help other people to speak out, or to better protect themselves against sexual predators.
