After a career marked by fundamental contributions to Metal, the iconic guitarist of Venom has decided to permanently retire from Venom Inc.
A moving announcement and an inevitable departure
In a message posted to his social media, Jeff “Mantas” Dunn, legendary guitarist and co-founder of Venom Inc, made official his departure from the band he formed in 2015. Citing health reasons and personal issues, Mantas said : “I will not be returning to Venom Inc, nor will I be appearing at any of the announced concerts.”
He also shared recent trials, including the loss of his beloved cat, Spooky, and the need to prioritize his health after a second heart attack in May 2024.

A journey punctuated with challenges
Mantas, aged 63 and currently living in Portugal, had already suffered a first heart attack in 2018, followed by a double bypass. In recent years, he had also taken time off to support his wife in her fight against cancer.
Despite these challenges, the guitarist expressed his gratitude to his fans: “Music is my therapy, my release and my connection to all of you who have supported me over the years. For that, I am eternally grateful.”
The Legacy of Mantas and the Future of Venom Inc.
Venom Inc, separate from the original Venom group led by Conrad “Cronos” Lant, was formed by Mantas alongside Tony “Demolition Man” Dolan and Anthony “Abaddon” Bray. The band has honored Venom's legacy while continuing to produce new music.
Mantas' temporary replacement on previous tours by Mike Hickey allowed Venom Inc to continue operating, but the group's future without its founder remains uncertain.
A pillar of thrash and speed metal
Venom, a pioneer of the speed and Thrash Metal genres, remains a major influence for bands like Metallica and Mayhem. Mantas' impact on extreme metal and his role in iconic albums like Welcome To Hell et Black Metal are undeniable.
Despite his departure from Venom Inc, Mantas promises to continue creating music: “On a much more positive note, new music and a resumption of my social activities are in the works.”
