These five rappers from the Dieppe region create an EP together

Five titles, five artists. The result is an EP: The five from here.

At the helm, we find Tootsi27 years old, rapper born in Dieppe (Seine-Maritime) and originally from Petit-Caux, and winner of the Dieppe Urban challenge, a competition rapin June 2024.

He decided to bring together three competitors from this competition around this project: Pur, Lil-Seydou and Ino, as well as Lana, a participant in the workshops which took place during the Dieppe Urban challenge. All are from Dieppe and surrounding areas.

Different styles

When the rapper was given the opportunity to record an EP, he couldn’t see himself doing it alone.

“Writing with other people is cool. Everyone makes the others shine,” he analyzes. Within two weeks, everything was written, and within two months, the entire EP was recorded.

The five from here does not have a red thread. “But that’s part of its charm,” says Tootsi. There is four titles with each of the artists and a other (Editor’s note: the title which concludes the album) solo. I adapted to everyone’s style. We worked together. »

In order, we find in the EP Alone for twowith Pura sound “about the solitude of the artist”; The darkness of Manwith Lil-Seydoua title “about society, with very raw lyrics”; Try again“a sound for everyone that invites you to always move forward”, with Ino; The voicewith Lanain a “boom-bap” and “RNB” style; and finally The big doorl’other than Tootsi about him and what he may have experienced.

Ahead of the EP’s release, Tootsi has already recorded a single, titled Tome 3which was published Thursday November 14, 2024.

The engineer turned rapper

The artist does not intend to stop there. “I want it to become serious », he ambitions. He has already planned a concert on December 6, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. at the Maison Jacques-Prévert in Janval and he wishes to perform solo at Drakkar, in Neuvillein 2025.

Tootsi has also already been able to open for the artist’s concert Soolking on the seafront in Dieppe in July 2024.

The rapper mentions another project in preparation for next year: 11 titles have already been recorded, but the title of l’album is not yet found.

A “poetic” style

The one who graduated in engineering from Insa in Rouen (Seine-Maritime) has been rapping since high school. Tootsi draws his inspiration from the rapper Lino orOrelsan. “I don’t listen to him anymore, but I find that he writes easily about himself and about others,” he analyzes.

Caux-Marin is still looking for its definitive style. “It’s still macerating,” he smiles. In any case, he describes it as “ poetic ”, with “beautiful images”. “I’m not going for easy writing,” assures the rapper.

Getting into rap for a living is not without risks, and Tootsi is aware of this: “It’s a risk worth taking. If I don’t take it now, I never will. »

Fortunately, he has the support of his family. “I would like the young people from here listen to us,” announces Tootsi, who considers himself satisfied if he has succeeded in “inspiring people” and “making them want to pursue their dreams.”
