Sean Penn Addresses 1987 Violence Allegations Against Madonna

Difficult for Sean Penn to forget this particularly turbulent episode of his marriage to Madonna. A union which was not a smooth river and which hit the headlines in 1987.

During a violent argument, the singer decided to call the police, reporting the presence of weapons in the house. A few minutes later, the SWAT was at the door.

“They handcuffed me”

“I said, ‘I’m not going out. I’m finishing my breakfast.’ The next thing I knew, windows were smashed all over the house and they were coming in,” Penn recalled in an interview with New York Times. “They handcuffed me. I don’t know what she told them. » The very next day, the tabloid press made headlines: Sean Penn allegedly tied up Madonna “like a turkey”. Worse still, he allegedly “hit her in the head with a baseball bat.”

“I guess it’s safe to say I’m not the strongest guy in the world. But if I hit Mike Tyson in the head with a baseball bat, he goes to the hospital,” explained Sean Penn to highlight the absurdity of the accusation. The actor is not really known for being an altar boy, but it should be remembered that it was Madonna who finally denied these slightly extravagant accusations.

Good friends

“While we certainly had more than one heated argument during our marriage, Sean never hit me, tied me up or physically assaulted me, and any assertion to the contrary is completely outrageous, malicious, reckless and false,” she said under oath in a 2016 defamation lawsuit filed by Penn against director Lee Daniels.

Regardless, Sean Penn and Madonna are on very good terms today. “It turns out that it’s a lot faster to repair a friendship after a divorce if there are no children in the story,” Sean Penn finally mused, before declaring about the one who shared his life from 1985 to 1989: “He’s someone I love.”
