In a long interview with the media Complex, the 27-year-old singer returns to this mega hit with which she remains associated despite herself. “I obviously appreciate that the title was so successful, but it implies that the audience is attached to you for this specific reason (…) I was in a very publicized relationship and as a woman, I don’t I don’t want this relationship story to define my new identity,” she confides.
The first rumors surrounding the Camila Cabello-Shawn Mendes couple began to swirl in July 2019, just one month after the release of their duet. Two years later, the two singers announced their separation via a joint press release. They gave each other another chance in 2023, before leaving again after a few months.
“I will always care about him and I will always love him, he’s a really good person,” the young star said of her ex in March 2024. “I’m lucky because some people have exes who are horrible and he is not. He’s a really kind and good person.”
