18 years ago, “Durch den Monsun”, the first single by the German group Tokio Hotel, was released. The starting point of a real tidal wave for the four young rockers, quickly elevated to the rank of phenomenon. Throughout Europe and particularly in France, the quartet, which quickly began to perform its songs in English, made its mark with a string of hits and albums. Sung entirely in German, “Schrei” was notably certified platinum for more than 100,000 sales in our region while “Zimmer 483” (ranked 2nd in the Top Albums) and “Scream” won a gold disc. “Humanoid” (2009) entered third in the French rankings.

“Everything was out of control”

At the time, the four musicians created riots at each appearance and they were even chased to their home by raging fans, in particular the twins Bill and Tom Kaulitz, objects of a veritable cult among teenage girls. “ We moved to Los Angeles because of that. When we came back from tour, we realized that we couldn’t have a private life, there was no longer any life outside the group. We need to have this balance. Especially when you grow up, you think about what you really want, the people you want to be with… And you need that intimacy. You need a breather outside of your career. And, at some point, we lost this balance. We tried to recreate it but it wasn’t fun at all. In the end, we had bodyguards 24/7, it was like being in prison all the time. People broke into our house, everything was out of control » told Tokio Hotel in an interview with Purecharts in 2014 for the release of the album “Kings of Suburbia”.

This is why Tom and Bill Kaulitz moved to Los Angeles. “ Nobody bores us, we rediscover another side of life. It’s beneficial for us, as human beings but also as musicians. It was the right decision to make » the two twins confided to us. And after ten years spent under the Californian sun, the two stars are ready to recount their hectic lives in front of cameras around the world: the documentary series “Kaulitz & Kaulitz” is about to land on Netflix!

“I just want to see Bill happy.”

In this new creation, the twins Tom and Bill Kaulitz take us into their fast-paced daily life, made of rhinestones, sequins but also tensions and lots of laughter. “ We are the most famous twins… in the world, do you think? No » says the drummer of Tokio Hotel in a sequence, he who now lives a well-ordered married life with the famous top model Heidi Klum. His brother does the opposite: he leads a completely wild single life. “ I was forced to hide my sexuality for years » confesses Bill, who only came out many years after the group’s success. “ I saw Bill suffer. And I just want to see him happy » Tom admits with concern. As the German duo says in these images, “ the party can begin » from June 25 on Netflix! At the same time, Tokio Hotel’s new single, “The Weekend”, has been available since mid-May. A new album should follow.
