the moving tribute of his son Thomas Dutronc on stage

Music to say goodbye. Thursday June 13, Thomas Dutronc paid a vibrant tribute to his mother, the singer Françoise Hardy, who died on Tuesday June 11, at the age of 80. During the second edition of the Jazz Opale Festival in Neufchâtel-Hardelot (Pas-de-Calais), the singer performed one of the songs of the sixties icon, greeted by an ovation lasting several minutes from the public.

“There is a lot of emotion in our house” these last few days, “I tried to sing two of my mother’s songs, but my throat is tight,” he recognized, leaving it to his musicians, Stochelo Rosenberg, Ricky Gresset and Thomas Bramerie, to interpret Friendshipa success by Françoise Hardy released in 1965.

The artist, however, succeeded to overcome his grief at the end of the concert, and to sing his words: “Sometimes sadness slips into their eyes (…) you can go to the depths of the clouds”. “In England we say ‘elephant in the room’ (the huge subject we avoid talking about, Editor’s note) (…) We cannot translate into French but for me, my ‘elephant in the room’, it’s my mother’s departure towards other skies“, he said modestly, in front of an equally moved audience.
