Kaytranada – TIMELESS
What would our summers be without Kaytranada shows up to brighten up our playlists? The dj/producer arrives right at aperitif time with his third album where electro and R&B once again make a lovely union. Obviously, the guests jostled at the gate to participate in the party (Childish Gambino, Channel Tres, Tinashe, Anderson .Paak, Charlotte Day Wilson) and impossible to resist this torrent of good energy. Eels – Eels Time!
Last but not Least, Mark Oliver Everett a.k.a Eels, returns for a 15th album. So, how is the 2024 vintage? More pop than the last albums, Eels Time! will be placed in the middle discs, between the least good and the very good. But anyway, an album of Eels pure juice, oh so friendly and comforting, like many of his productions. (E Works / PIAS) – listen
Goat Girl –Below The Waste
Now reduced to three members (Lottie Pendelbury, Rosy Jones and Holly Mullineau), Goat Girl despite everything, manages to stay the course on a more than honorable 3rd album. Accompanied by the producer John ‘Spud’ Murphy (Black Midi and Lankum), the London group plays songs that are mostly quite quiet, between indie rock and post-punk, with here and there some folk or experimental sounds. Tim Cohen –Strawberry Hill
Without making any noise, Tim Cohen continues the construction of a more than respectable discography, if we judge by the quality of his previous solo albums. Crossed within The Fresh & Onlys Or Thee Oh Sees, the Californian offers us a new collection of light, catchy and melodious pop songs, at times taking on rock, folk or country accents. A real joy. Joey Valencia & Brae – NO HANDS
A new album from Beastie Boys ? Or their children after them? No way. it’s about the duo Joey Valencia & Brae of which No hands is the second album. Preceded by a few punchy singles, the album confirms the trend with a super effective mix of hip hop and breakbeats with devastating samples and a very fun flow. A joyful and festive set with 90s sounds, which could be a hit among old and young alike. (JVB records) – listen
