Like many stars before him, much more invested in the animal cause, like Brigitte Bardot, Florent Pagny is very moved by what is happening to Paul Watson. This sailor, environmental activist and whale protector, has been in prison for almost three months in Nuuk, Greenland.
And the singer of “Know how to love” decided to mobilize for his release, by writing a song for him. This October 20, 2024, while he was the guest of Émilie Tran Nguyen, in “En société”, the new France 5 show, he explained his approach.
Florent Pagny’s Confusion
Concerning the actions of Paul Watson and his fellow activists, he felt that it was “of knights“. He assured that this whole affair: “It’s frankly unfair. This injustice is what bothers me the most.” And to add: “I have an eco-friendly streak like everyone else!”
About the whale, an animal that he has already seen quite a few times, at home in Patagonia, Florent Pagny is full of praise. He also believes: “It’s a very curious animal, so when you approach, it comes to see you and says hello”.
Florent Pagny, however, had a short absence on the set of the show this Sunday. The one who has been defending a bill for the legalization of cannabis for years made a small mistake. On the air he called the man of his song Peter Watsonbefore correctly renaming him Paul Watson.
No one around him corrected him.
What is the Paul Watson affair?
As a reminder, Paul Watson, a 73-year-old environmentalist, was arrested in July 2024. He was trying to intercept a new Japanese whaling factory ship.
There has been a moratorium from the International Whaling Commission since 1986 which prohibits whaling. However, some countries such as Japan, Norway and Iceland are pursuing it.
