Created in 1980, the group Indochine experienced a lull in the 90s, due to the rise of boy bands. Singer Nicolas Sirkis looked back on this complicated period.
At the forefront of the French music scene since 1980, Indochine went through a difficult period in the face of the rise of boy bands in the 90s. Revealed thanks to their catchy title The Adventurerin 1982, the group had one success after another in the following years. But pop rock seemed to have run out of steam in the 90s, the group had its ups and downs, pushing guitarist Dominique Nicolas to leave Indochine in 1994. His sidekick, Nicola Sirkis, returned to this lull.

From 1990 onwards, the public and the media turned towards a completely new genre, that of boy bands. Left aside in the face of this new rise, Indochine fell victim to the disinterest of the press as well as the public and their two albums A day in our life And Wax did not meet with the expected success. Singer Nicola Sirkis spoke about the group’s state of mind during this complicated period, on the microphone of RFM : “Some in the group took it better than others, I’ll say it like that to keep it mild…“words that do not fail to echo the departure of the group of its co-founder, Dominique Nicolas. Invited on the show hosted by Bernard Montiel, the artist adds: “I found it very unfair.but on the other hand I quickly realized that it would be useful to us. We disappeared in the 90s, in the worst moments of French music… It was the craze for boy bands, even Our own record company had thrown us out because they were making boy bands. We were appalled at what it had become, the big French popular success“.

If the crossing of the 90s was not favorable to Indochine, the group regained popularity thanks to their title I asked the moonreleased in 2002. The rockers did well to continue to live from their passion, the result paid off… In 2010, Indochine was even the first French group to fill the Stade de France, a nice revenge on their difficult years.
