Even if many see him as nothing more than a gigantic meme, Nicolas Cage is undoubtedly a great Hollywood actor. 20 years ago, he played in an excellent film which will finally have a sequel if we are to believe the testimony of another star who would accompany him in this project.
A look back at one of Nicolas Cage’s best films
Since the start of his career in the mid-80s, the name Nicolas Cage has come up many times. It must be said that he has played in a very large number of different films, making him a multi-talented actor. So of course, today he is known by the new generation for his slightly eccentric personality and for all the memes that are associated with his face. But before getting there, he also played the main role in some excellent films… including the famous Lord of War just 20 years ago.
-If you saw this film released in 2005 and directed by Andrew Niccol, you probably still remember at least its introductory credits. The latter indeed made us follow the life of a firearm bullet from its creation until it is fired, all accompanied by superb music For What It’s Worth of Buffalo Springfield. The film, for its part, told the story of Yuri Orlov (Nicolas Cage) and his brother Vitali (Jared Leto). Born in Soviet Ukraine during the Cold War, they both emigrated to the United States posing as persecuted Jews before eventually making careers in the firearms trafficking. Between satire, cynicism and dark humor, the film clearly had an impact on spectators at the time of its release, and it is finally time to talk about its sequel.
Lord of War will indeed have a sequel, and another actor will have the main role!
Between SOS Fantômes, Top Gun, Mad Max et Indiana Jonesthe time has definitely come for the return of the most iconic licenses of past decades. And while no one really expected a return of Lord of War, Andrew Niccol’s film was indeed made official more than a year ago. Since then, however, no more news even though its filming should have taken place in fall 2023. But a few days ago, the project finally resurfaced thanks to the actor Bill Skarsgård who was on the microphone of the podcast Happy Sad Confused on the occasion of the release of Nosferatu. According to him, Filming is expected to take place this year, just 20 years after the release of the original film.
Baptized Lords of Warthe sequel to the 2005 film should take place just as long later since we will find there Bill Skarsgård in the main role. The latter would then play Anton, the youngest son of Yuri Orlov, always played by Nicolas Cage. Having followed in his father’s footsteps without remaining at his side, he would then try to form his own army of mercenaries to interrupt American conflicts in the Middle East. In other words, Anton and Yuri would then be enemies. Skarsgård believes that this new film will have a “excellent storyline” and that it will be “really fun” to turn. The actor also describes his own character as a “fucking charismatic asshole”, suffice to say that the spirit is therefore likely to be the same as in the original film. For the moment, we don’t know anything more about this famous Lords of War, so we will have to wait for official communication.
