“Superman”, “Queer”, “Dragons”… The 12 cinema releases we are most looking forward to in 2025

CINEMA – Even if 2024 was a year rich in blockbusters (and surprises), 2025 will not have anything to be ashamed of when it comes to new releases. Cinemas should continue to be well-filled since, over the coming year, we will find, among others, Brad Pitt propelled at more than 300 km/h in a Formula 1 car, Pamela Anderson in a dramatic role and Gilles Lellouche and Adele Exarchopoulos in a sci-fi film.

The Room Next Door by Pedro Almodóvar

Awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival for this film, Pedro Almodóvar stars Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton in a drama about two friends who reunite after losing touch for years. The film, which explores themes such as the end of life and loneliness, is the Spanish director's first English-language feature film. The Room Next Doorreleased in theaters on January 8, 2025.

A complete stranger by James Mangold

Timothée Chalamet plays American singer Bob Dylan in this biopic which focuses on the start of his career in the 1960s. The cast is completed by Edward Norton and Elle Fanning. Small bonus for those who are not yet convinced: the interpreter of Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door approves the choice of Timothée Chalamet to play him and assures “ that it will be entirely credible in [son] role “. A complete stranger releases in cinemas on January 29, 2025.

Bridget Jones: very lazy by Michael Morris

Bridget Jones is now a widow and mother of two children. At 52, she returned to the single market but her love life was still just as complicated. Renée Zellweger stars alongside Leo Woodall and Chiwetel Ejiofor, the two men between whom her heart swings. Fans of previous parts of the romantic comedy will also be happy to find the character played by Hugh Grant on screen. See you on February 12, 2025 to discover Bridget Jones' new romantic troubles.

Queer by Luca Guadagnino

Daniel Craig is a long way from his role as James Bond. In Queerhe plays William Lee, an American writer in exile in Mexico who falls in love with a young man played by Drew Starkey. It is an adaptation of the eponymous novel by author William S. Burroughs which takes the form of a drama where love, partying and obsession intertwine. Queer releases in cinemas on February 26, 2025.

Mickey 17 de Bong Joon-ho

The Oscar-winning director for Parasite this time offers a comedy perched in a science fiction universe. Robert Pattinson is Mickey, an individual who agreed to be cloned repeatedly and sent on the most dangerous missions. When he dies, a new iteration of him is created and he resumes his life with some of his memories. But one day, when Mickey comes home, another version of him is also there. The film will be shown in cinemas from April 16, 2025.

Dragons by Dean DeBlois

The cult adventures of Harold and Toothless are entitled to their live action adaptation. The vikings of the island of Berk are regularly attacked by dragons. But Harold is a different young man, who doesn't really fit into the warrior archetype. Everything will change when he befriends a Night Fury, a dragon so fast it's almost impossible to spot. Gerard Butler, who voiced Harold's father in the animated films, now plays him in live action. Released in cinemas on June 11, 2025.

28 years later by Danny Boyle

The cult horror saga returns 18 years later. In this third opus, the Fury virus, which transforms infected people into zombies, is still rampant in Great Britain. Director Danny Boyle and the cinematographer decided to shoot the film using an iPhone 15. Casting-wise, Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays the lead role. He is accompanied by Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes and Jack O'Connell. 28 years later releases in theaters on June 18, 2025.

F1 de Joseph Kosinski

In this feature film, Brad Pitt plays a Formula 1 driver who comes out of retirement to help a lagging team. At the same time, he takes under his wing a promising young pilot played by Damson Idris.

Those with a keen eye can recognize real drivers in the trailer, such as Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc or Max Verstappen. Indeed, the film was shot during Grand Prix weekends and it was not uncommon, for those who follow the sport, to see the two actors on the grid. F1 will be in theaters from June 25, 2025.

Superman by James Gunn

The director, but also co-president of DC Studios, is rebooting the cinematic universe of the comic book publishing house. And to do this, he is directing a new film about Clark Kent, aka Superman. Here, exit Henry Cavill who leaves his place to David Corenswet. Lois Lane is played by Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult shaved his head to enter the Lex Luthor costume. The release is scheduled for July 9, 2025.

Chien 51 by Cédric Jimenez

Gilles Lellouche and Adèle Exarchopoulos will once again collaborate in Cédric Jimenez's next film. The director of North Bac this time tackles science fiction since it adapts the novel of the same name by Laurent Gaudé. The story takes place in Paris in 2045 and tells of the forced collaboration between two police officers who are investigating the assassination of the inventor of an AI. Theatrical release October 15, 2025.

Zootopia 2 de Byron Howard et Jared Bush

Inspectors Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde are back on duty. In this sequel to the animated film released in 2016, a mysterious reptile (probably the snake we see on the poster) wreaks havoc in Zootopia. The synopsis tells us that Judy and Nick will infiltrate unknown areas of the city to solve this case and that their relationship will be tested. For more answers, you will have to wait until November 26, 2025 to see it.

The Last Showgirl by Gia Coppola

Francis Ford Coppola's granddaughter presents a feature film starring Pamela Anderson. The latter plays a fifty-year-old dancer from Las Vegas at the end of her career. With his performance, the star ofAlert to Malibu positions itself in the Oscar race. She shares the screen with Jamie Lee Curtis, Kiernan Shipka and Dave Bautista. But no release date in France has yet been announced.

Obviously, this selection does not take into account all the films of 2025 because other major productions are expected. Among them, we find for example superhero films like Fantastic Four or saga sequels with Jurassic World : Renaissance or Elusive 3.
