Katia, Jacquouille or Claude Verneuil… The actor has multiplied cult roles. He ranks sixth among the French's favorite comic actors, according to Ifop.
Sixth in the ranking of the French's favorite comic actors, Christian Clavier remains the boss of laughter. His box office results make him the champion in all categories (four films with more than ten million admissions) and in 2024, a film in which he plays has been broadcast every week on television (3 million for “The Corsican Investigation », broadcast on December 22 on France 2 opposite the blockbuster “Avatar: The Way of Water”). His latest feature film, “Never Without My Psychiatrist”, still in theaters, is aiming for one million admissions. Here are five must-see films.
“Grandpa resists” (1983)
Written with Martin Lamotte, the eponymous play caught the eye of producer Christian Fechner who decided to adapt it for the big screen. The casting is XXL – every supporting role is played by a big star – and a magical syncretism between old and new generation operates. An impertinent and wildly modern comedy, “Papy” explores the Second World War and depicts resistance fighters and collaborators in a very unique way. We will remember this sentence pronounced by Michel Taupin, played by Clavier: “I have a lot of admiration for the resistance fighters. I myself in Dreux tried to participate. But it’s a very closed environment…”

“Twist again in Moscow” (1986)
Lamotte, Clavier and Poiré set the table again for an irresistible Soviet comedy carried by Blier, Noiret and the incredible Jacques François. Even if the film will not completely find its audience (1.3 million admissions), it remains a magnificent chronicle of the dying USSR. Note this virulent outburst from Marshal Leonid Bassounov: “It’s an American and decadent noise. »

“My Best Friends” (1989)
Attention masterpiece: Poiré and Clavier create a bittersweet comedy, full of melancholy, about a group of friends who revisit their past. We think of this judgment which could be the “pitch” of the film: “At 20, we wanted to change the world; it is the world that has changed us. » A commercial disaster upon its release (less than 400,000 admissions), it became cult after being broadcast on television. We won't get tired of this reply from Clavier to Darroussin who has just had a truck stolen: “What's the big deal for you? »
“Guardian Angels” (1995)
A few months after the triumph of “Visitors”, Clavier and Poiré wrote a “crazy” adventure mixing thriller, comedy and science fiction. Gérard Depardieu, owner of a sexy cabaret, and Christian Clavier, abused priest, see their double arrive. The Paris-Brest scene has become totally cult. Nearly six million admissions for this fast-paced comedy and a duo that hits the mark (which we will find in the shoes of Asterix and Obélix). We will quote this sentence from Carco: “I am the prototype of the reclusive Catholic. »

“An Hour of Tranquility” (2014)
Adapted from the hilarious play by Florian Zeller, “An Hour of Tranquility” is a little comedy gem. Clavier plays Michel Leproux who tries to listen to his favorite record “Me, myself and I” by Neil Youart – quite a program. Constantly interrupted by his wife, his mistress, his son, his neighbor, he ends up exploding. Released a few weeks after the tidal wave of “What have we done to the good Lord?” », the film deserves to be (re)discovered. We will remember this “keyboard” anger: “Listen to Neil Youart on headphones? While I have the best speakers in the world! »
