2024 was once again a rich year for cinema. If the United States experienced a drop in attendance resulting in a loss of 4% at the box office, France took care of its copy. Indeed, we can be happy to say that we have been the good students of world cinema by posting an exceptional increase of 0.4% at the box office compared to 2023, totaling 181 million admissions. France honored a 2024 vintage which nevertheless did not lack big successes.
The United States first in the ranking of the best films of 2024
Unsurprisingly, the global box office was once again dominated by the major American franchises. Except Wickedit is the sequels which have met with the most success, notably with films which were highly anticipated like Godzilla x Kong et Dune 2. Nevertheless, the real winner this year is Disney who is at the top with 3 films. Deadpool & Wolverine stands in front Vaiana 2 and is exceeded by Vice-Versa 2one of the most profitable films in history, the 2 works being part of the 4 animated feature films present in this ranking. And if we go outside this top, the United States still dominates with big names such as Venom 3 (476 millions), Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (451 million) or Gladiator II (435 million). However, other countries also had their say, and in particular France.
In this top, China, the only foreign country in the ranking, tickles the American machine by placing 2 films. Regarding France, you have to go to 42nd position to find A little something extranumber 1 in the French ranking, with $84 million collected. Finally, we can also note that Le Comte de Monte Cristo obtained 47th place with 74 million, a figure to be put into perspective given that the film was released on December 20 in the United States.
