Actor’s confession
Home Alone was a huge success; Not only is it a Christmas classic decades later, but raised 500 million dollars in cinemas around the world.
Daniel Stern, now 67, revealed that he almost didn’t accept the role in the initial film, which was released in 1990.
The reason? Filming took six to eight weeks, but Stern was still going to receive the initial $300,000.
When they started talking about Home Alone 2, he knew its value. This time, he was offered $600,000 to reprise his role, but was surprised to learn that Pesci was earning up to $3 million.
Dissatisfied, he made a counteroffer of $1.5 million and two percent of the sequel’s gross profits.
He admitted: “I knew they couldn’t make the film without me, but I was also insecure as I almost screwed it up the first time.
“I didn’t want to be too greedy when I loved the film and the role so much,” he revealed.
He eventually got his $1.5 million, but the studio reached an agreement on the profit percentage, cutting it in half, to one percent instead of two.
