second part, we finally have a release date

Fans of the Kaamelott universe can note the date in their diary: the second part of the film trilogy created by Alexandre Astier will be released in theaters on October 22, 2025. This announcement puts an end to several years of speculation after the release of the first film in 2021.

A project that spans several years

After the (relative) success of the first part, which attracted 2.6 million spectators, the sequel was awaited. Alexandre Astier had already indicated in 2022 that this second chapter would be divided into two parts. A necessary choice to take into account the complexity of the story, where each character engages in a personal quest. This two-film format will allow the different plots to be better developed.

The filming, which was very discreet, took place mainly in Dordogne and Ardèche, with sequences filmed in historic locations such as the Château de Jumilhac. These settings should help reinforce the epic and dark aspect already outlined in the first opus.

A return to the heart of tensions

The exact plot is still unknown, but the groundwork for this sequel was laid at the end of the first film. A post-credits scene showed the return of Méléagant, Lancelot’s manipulative advisor, picked up on the ground but very much alive. This character, central in the last seasons of the series, could once again play a determining role in the opposition between Arthur and his former right-hand man who has become a rival.

In an interview, Alexandre Astier described this second film as more spectacular and made an analogy with The Empire Strikes Back, emphasizing the more dramatic tone of this opus. The themes should therefore move away from pure humor to embrace more the codes of heroic fantasy, while remaining faithful to the universe established by the series.

A wait until the end of 2025

With this announcement, the promotional machine begins, with the release of a few photos. In any case, fans will have to wait until October 2025 to discover this sequel.

As a reminder, Kaamelott was created in 2005 by Alexandre Astier, and first established itself as a television series broadcast on M6, where it revisited the Arthurian legend with an offbeat tone. For six seasons, the series mixes absurd humor and drama within the court of King Arthur. After a break of several years, the story continued on the big screen with Kaamelott: Premier Volet, released in 2021.
