This transparent from LG is available for sale, but its price is stratospheric

LG is finally realizing its futuristic vision of home entertainment by launching its transparent , the Signature OLED T, in the United States, initially presented at CES 2024. This 77-inch TV is now available to order for the modest sum of $59,999.

The major innovation of the Signature OLED T lies in its ability to switch between transparent and opaque mode thanks to a retractable black panel. In transparent mode, the screen becomes window-like, allowing you to see what is behind it. LG has specially developed content called “TObject” to exploit this unique featureparticularly useful in standby mode for displaying works of art or natural scenes.

The “Zero Connect Box” system is another major asset of this high-end television. This external box receives all peripherals (game consoles, multimedia players) and transmits the signal wirelessly to the screen in 4K 120 Hz, with a maximum range of 9 meters. This solution elegantly eliminates the unsightly presence of cables, preserving the sleek aesthetic of the TV.

What technical sheet for LG Signature OLED T?

On a technical level, the Signature OLED T is entitled to 4K UHD definition (3840 × 2160) and a native refresh rate of 120 Hz. This is more than the transparent TV Xiaomi presented a few years ago, which made do with a 1080p screen at 60 Hz.

It supports Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG formats, while its α11 AI processor provides upscaling using artificial intelligence. Gamers will appreciate the compatibility with the variable refresh rate (VRR), AMD FreeSync, Nvidia G-Sync, and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). The 4.2-channel audio system supports Dolby Audio and DTS:X technologies.

LG also offers optional customizable shelves, sold separately. A surprising commercial choice given the already astronomical price of the television, but which clearly targets a clientele for whom budget is not a constraint.

Unsurprisingly, this exceptional television is mainly aimed at owners of penthouses or luxurious spaces with large bay windows, where a traditional screen would block the view. Although the price is prohibitive for the majority of consumers, this innovation could foreshadow the future arrival of more affordable models incorporating this transparent technology.
