James Gunn, known for his series Guardians of the Galaxy is the big boss of DC Studios, a subsidiary of Warner Studios. It is on his shoulders that the next superhero films from DC rest… and the next one Superman which he directed and for which he unveiled the trailer this Thursday.
On the musical theme created by John Williams for the 1978 feature film and remixed and made more dramatic by John Murphy, the first images of this new Superman were revealed to some 150 journalists during a press conference held last Monday.
Clark Kent, aka Superman, now has the features of David Corenswet (who we saw in the series Hollywood from Netflix). A journalist at the Daily Planet in Metropolis, he meets Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) and will quickly have trouble with Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult).
Unusually, the first trailer for the film which will be released on July 11, 2025 begins with a superhero in difficulty, helped by his dog, Krypto.
“His extraterrestrial origins and the way he incorporates them into his life are one of the important themes of the film,” said the filmmaker. But Superman remains a very human character. It was important to see that he has to fight against something that can harm him.”

A statement that is nevertheless current
“Hope, honesty and goodness are the basic qualities of Superman. And today, let’s say it, these are almost unreal qualities,” said the filmmaker.
“On-screen chemistry is not something we control. At the last auditions, we had three potential actors for Superman and three actresses for Lois Lane. David and Rachel were incredible individually, but as soon as we put them together, it was electric and that electricity was palpable,” he detailed.
“We tried to balance the classic elements with those that are completely new,” James Gunn said. Superman is one of the most popular characters all over the world and everyone has their own opinion on how he should act. So I had to find something true and authentic. And we did a lot of trial and error, both in terms of the script, the costumes and the special effects.
Clark Kent and Lois Lane are journalists, a fact that James Gunn was keen to maintain in his new interpretation of the Man of Steel.
“You will be surprised by the importance of their profession in the film!” exclaimed the filmmaker. I won’t say more, but know that the fact that Lois is as good a journalist as Superman is a good protector of the planet is an important element of the film. And Lois will be admired by fans for the way she seeks to uncover the truth.
