After having already suffered numerous arbitrary decisions on the part of Disney which have harmed their productions, Pixar just saw his latest series censored for this absurd reason.
Pixar: Disney censorship that makes people cringe
Along with Lucasfilm, Marvel Entertainment and 20th Century Studios, Pixar is among the Disney group’s biggest acquisitions. The studio has produced numerous masterpieces, winning an Oscar for best animated film, and has a number of big box office hits. Nevertheless, the appearance of Disney+ and the Covid-19 pandemic has profoundly changed the situation for the Pixar studio, which was forced by the parent company to transform itself for several years into a reservoir of content intended for the platform. Thus, while they were initially supposed to be released in theaters, the films Soul, Lucas et Red Alert were entitled to an exclusive release on Disney+. Pixar was also forced to produce series set in the universe of its greatest hits, including Dug Day (Up there) et Dream Productions (Vise-Versa 2).
February 19 will mark the first original series from the Pixar studio. Titled Won or loseshe will tell us about the adventures of a mixed softball team a week before a decisive match. Each episode will take the point of view of a different character, with its own animation style. A bold and unique project, which should be a new opportunity for the Pixar studio to show that it remains one of the most innovative players in the animated film market. However, the series also pays the price for Disney’s unilateral decisions.
After disrupting Pixar’s release schedule, by pushing back the launch date of Win or Lose in order to advance the release of Dream Productions and ride on the success of Vise Versa 2we learn today in The Hollywood Reporter what big-eared group’s management forced Pixar to remove transgender character’s story arc. Questioned by the American media, the Hollywood major explained: “When it comes to animated content for younger audiences, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain topics with their children on their own terms and schedules.”
And this decision was undoubtedly taken into consideration with the result of the American presidential election, which a few months ago resulted in the victory of Republican candidate Donald Trump over Democratic candidate Kamala Harristhis censorship on the part of Disney can also be explained on an economic level; the movies Buzz Lightyear (Pixar) and Avalonia (Disney), which featured LGBTQIA+ characters, were heavily punished at the box office. Internally, while relations between the management of Pixar and Disney are not in good shape, this Disney interference makes people cringe. Chanel Stewart, the interpreter of the censored character, – herself transgender – told Deadline that Disney’s decision had “discouraged“.
